KS Secret Sauce? Playtest, playtest, playtest
Team KS has been quietly working on an exciting new project with our new friends at C & A Scientific. This week we were joined by Jen from C&A to playtest this work in progress at local camps, cultural institutions, and in game shops in the NYC area. Our goal for this week was simply to see what different types of players thought of the game: How did the game work? What was confusing? What was exciting? How could it be better?
First stop playtesting: Brooklyn Strategist! (image: Brooklyn Strategist )
Our first stop on this adventure of playing and learning together was the fun and funky community game store and coffee shop in Brooklyn called the Brooklyn Strategist! If you’re ever in Carroll Gardens with a moment to spare, this is a place you must check out. Here you will find masterfully brewed java and every game under the sun catalogued in a simple way. The space is filled with tables for playing and a rotating calendar of camps, clubs, and after school activities, this is a welcoming space that truly has options for everyone.

We sat down with expert gamers to find out their thoughts on the game. Our hope was to hear their feedback on the mechanics of the game, the content it shared, and how it played. We were delighted to sit back and watch as they quickly picked up the game play and were immediately immersed in the idea of building a real science lab.
When the microscope came out during the second playtest, these experts were truly blown away! They were wowed that a game could incorporate a microscope into the objective of game play launching an afternoon of conversations about the promise and potential of games for learning. We can’t wait to share more about the journey of this new game very soon. Stay tuned...
